Autotech EVO X Test driven by Motor Mag

Autotech Engineering's EVO X MR was recently driven by Motor Magazine as a test drive on what the car would be like with a few modifications under the bonnet. To say they were impressed is an understatement. Not only is the EVO X arguably the best road/track car available for under $100K, with a few modifications done to it, the car transforms into a track weapon capable of mixing it with car costing up to 3 times as much,

The Autotech EVO X MR was recently purchased by Autotech and immediately had the factory computer reprogrammed by ECUTEK software to increase the boost, reduce fuel load and adjust timing across the rev range, which transformed the car's drivability. Autotech then built a custom 3 inch stainless steel exhaust for the MR and also fitted new Billstein shocks and adjustable coil overs to firm up the suspension to almost race-spec levels. The end result is a car that, combined with the factory ECU software that controls torque distribution to its wheels, is almost impossible to lose control of.

Boost has been would up to just under 20PSI, meaning that this car now lunges off the line and powers right through the rev range, continually pulling. In fact, the engine in this EVO is arguably way stronger than its competitor the Subaru STI, and appears almost bullet-proof in its design. Spiro is confident that it can handle powers up to the high 200's with a larger turbocharger fitted, "It can just handle anything you throw at it, it's built that well", he said.

As the guys from Motor Found out, this EVO has become the ultimate street car/race car for the racing enthusiast, there's only really one area in which it hasn't been an improvement over the previous model, and that's it's weight. Fitted with all it's extra modern day gadgets (an excellent sound system, for example) the MR comes in a little heavier than the previous model and until you retune the ECU it can really show in some points under acceleration.
